BE THE BEST YOU QUILT

So it’s the end of February, and the craziness of the year continues. Do you remember your New Year’s resolutions? Have you stuck to them? As I’ve mentioned before I like to refer to them as “an adjustment” to promises made to myself for self development or projects.

Of course I celebrate any milestones along the way, and this blog is about one of those mile stones! I have finally finished writing the “Be the Best You” quilt pattern and it is coming out for release very soon.

This is a special quilt (Well… actually they all are. I suppose it would be like saying I have a favourite child!). To be honest it definitely had its moments and at some points I thought this was going to live in the naughty corner for eternity, as some things just wouldn’t work.

So I left it alone for quite a while. Then at the start of this year I picked it up again, the errors were SO obvious. A fresh look at a project does work wonders. It was kind of fun to limit myself to a simple colour palette, grey black & yellow. My family, bless them, were dubious but supportive. Turns out they were impressed and love the end result.

Each image block comprises of some type of equipment used for exercise. It was fun to draw simple versions of this equipment, some were easy like the yoga mat and music notes. Some were more challenging like the bike, the weight bench and the sneaker! Turns out kettle bells are a fun shape to not only draw but also sew! Who knew?

I think if I had to choose a favourite block, it would be the sneaker. I think I now want Tula Pink sneakers! Image those at the gym. Sneakers with quilter style! Maybe there’s a market there…

This pattern involves simple piecing for joining the blocks together and a narrow quarter inch border which is actually easier than it looks. Just make sure you cut and sew it precisely! Plus lots of applique. The applique was finished with raw edge, using the triple straight stitch on my machine. The triple straight stitch gave each image a lovely defined edge.

So in ending, some advice from the quilt, take each day as it come & each day “Be the best you can be” #bestthebeyouquilt

Hope you love it just as much as me.
